FILM SCREENING AND EVENING ACTIVITIES
Wednesday April 6th

BLUESTOWN RISING DOCUMENTARY (16:00)

After first coming to Notodden in 2015 “Little Steven” Van Zandt had an idea. He had been overwhelmed by the story of the creation of the Notodden Blues Festival - and this idea  resulted in the documentary Bluestown Rising. We are pleased to include a screening of the documentary Bluestown Rising as part of the event at 16.00 on Wednesday April 7th.

Read more about the screening and the background of Bluestown Rising here.

INFORMAL BUFFET DINNER (19:30)

The screening of Bluestown Rising and the Q & A session with Director Jørn Stenersen that will conclude at approximately 18:00, ending the day’s formal conference program. Delegates will have a chance to return to the hotel, mingle, stroll around Hydropark and simply enjoy the early spring evening in Notodden. Then at 19:30, a buffet dinner will be served at the Bok and Blueshuset.

You can find more details here.

AN EVENING IN THE EUROPEAN BLUES CAPITAL  (from 21:00)

Notodden is known as ‘the European Capital of the Blues’, and naturally the conference organizers are working with the town to show this to conference delegates in the right way. This will not be part of the official Conference Program, but will give visitors a taste of “Bluestown” and its music. We will come back with more information as we come closer to the Film Conference.

More information will be available here.

Wednesday April 6

BLUESTOWN RISING (Bok and Blueshuset)

Screening 16:00

After “Little Steven” Van Zandt’s first visit to Notodden in 2015, he wanted to know, “Why hasn’t anyone has told me about this place before? Not only had he experienced the Notodden Blues Festival - one that literally takes over an entire town for the better part of a week - he was positivelyoverwhelmed by story behind this beloved event.

The factories in this isolated town of Notodden had shut down in 1987, leaving nothing but silence where jobs had once been. The search for profits by the factory owners had caused them to close the factories almost overnight. The smoke disappeared, as did jobs and money. It was a devastating blow to the town and its people.

With nothing but their vision and talent, and against all odds, a small group of young men and women of the town create the Notodden Blues Festival that now 30 years later is one of the best in the World.

The next year Steven proposed the idea for a documentary about the festival and the town. And thus development of the documentary Bluestown Rising began with Steven Van Zandt as Executive Producer working together David John Smith, with Kings Mountain Productions co-producer/director Jørn Stenensen and Bjørn-Owe Holmberg (Kings Mountain Production) as filmmakers.

This classic and unique story is scheduled for national broadcast by NRK later this year, we have the opportunity to show you this completed documentary in a ‘by-invitation’ screening.

Together with invited people from the town of Notodden, conference delegates are invited to this long-awaited story to be told on the big screen for the first time.

For a deeper look at the documentary and the story behind it, we invite you to visit the official website.
